Friday, September 10, will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr, according to the Islamic Project for Sighting the Eid crescent, which has based its findings on scientific calculations.

This year, Ramadan started on Wednesday, August 11.

According to Shaikh Ashraf Noor Al Haq, Head of Calendar Section at the Dubai Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Department, beginning this year, Muslims in the UAE will fast for a longer period each year for the coming years, with more than 14-hour fasting period until 2019. And by 2019, Ramadan will begin in May.

“From this year onwards, we have entered a cycle of 10 years of longer fasting period in summer. In the coming 10 years, we will fast for a longer period each year. This cycle will end in May 2019, when the weather will begin to get cooler and the day hours shorter,” he said.
