Dubai's Du joins rival Etisalat in delivering 5G experience

Emirates: Dubai-based telecoms operator Du on Saturday said it is delivering 5G connectivity for the first time via the Axon Pro 10 handset.

The company said a select group of Du customers who pre-registered from May 8 will receive the devices for free and can begin enjoying 5G connectivity speeds up to 20 times faster than 4G provided.

The announcement closely follows the UAE’s first live 5G consumer experiences, hosted by Du across its retail stores and suhoors throughout the month of May.

ZTE’s Axon Pro 10 device was used to show consumers how they can unlock the full potential of the network upgrade, and the same device is now available for consumers to avail the full 5G experience, Du added.

Du said it will continue to bring further 5G-ready handsets over the next few weeks including the Huawei Mate x5G and ZTE Router to the UAE as they become available.

On Thursday, Du's rival Etisalat said its subscribers can now enjoy 5G access on the ZTE Axon 10 Pro, the first available 5G device.

Etisalat said in a statement that this launch is the first in line of 5G devices from leading global smart phone brands expected to be unveiled this year.
